With over 160 breweries in the city and more likely on the way, Chicago is truly a hub for craft beers. This can leave some who are looking for the best breweries struggling to choose only a few from the ever-growing list. However, after reading this article, you should be able to more easily determine which breweries are worth visiting, no matter what side of the city you find yourself on.
Downtown
1. Crushed By Giants
If this brewery’s name isn’t intriguing enough, how do mouthwatering cheeseburgers and $22 six-beer flights sound? This downtown jewel also features other filling foods, cocktails, and wine. Crushed By Giants is located on Michigan Avenue.
2. Adam’s Street Brewery
If you want to try some brews that were created by hands with loads of experience, you need to visit Adam’s Street Brewery, located within the Berghoff Restaurant. The brewery has been producing mainly German ales since 1887 and has been operated by the same family throughout the decades.
North Side
3. Off Color Brewing
Not only does this brewery offer craft beers, but it also provides options like wine, cocktails, and even coffee, making this a brewhouse anyone will enjoy visiting. And if you’re a dog lover (like most of us), you will find this brewery even more appealing as the owners bring their pooch, Hops, along with them to hang out with the customers. Currently, they have 25 craft beers on tap.
4. ERIS Brewery and Cider House
This unique, women-owned brewery found within the Old Irving Park neighborhood features both indoor and outdoor seating, season permitting. The 113-year-old building it calls home has a delightfully industrial feel to it and is tied to some interesting history—it was previously a Masonic Temple. You can enjoy a hearty meal there any day and get down to some live music on select nights.
South Side
5. Marz Community Brewing Company
In the famous Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago you can find Marz Community Brewing Company. This Chicago brewery has produced an impressive number of different kinds of beverages like kombucha, sours, ales, lagers, and IPAs. A couple of the unique drink combinations they have created include cocoa nibs and pretzels in a white chocolate stout and a lager with Earl Grey tea.
6. Alulu Brewery and Pub
This brewhouse located in the Pilsen neighborhood currently has over 20 craft beers available and dozens of other types of alcoholic beverages, including ciders, cocktails, and wine. Alulu also has a long menu of appetizing items to accompany your drink.
West Side
7. District Brew Yards
District Brew Yards, located in the West Loop, is an amalgamation of four different breweries and offers 40—that’s right, 40—kinds of pour-your-own brews. Add to that a collection of savory smoked meats, and you have yourself a must-visit brewery.
8. Midwest Coast Brewing Company
If you find yourself in the West Town neighborhood, consider making a pit stop at Midwest Coast Brewing Company. One of the best reasons to go there? The taproom is completely pupper-friendly. If you have a canine companion, it would be wise to take advantage of this special aspect of this brewhouse, along with their $20 five-beer flights. (Just try to refrain from offering any to your pooch.)
With these eight unique Chicago breweries to choose from, you’re bound to find one you want to visit again. And if none of these breweries are up to your standards, there are dozens of others you can try in the city.
